  • Clover Magnetic Pin Caddy. Plastic, magnetic pin caddy, with a cover for storage, not only holds your pins, but aligns them across the center groove, making for easy pick up.
  • Mary Ellen's Best Press. Make ironing a breeze by using this lavender scented starch that doesn't clog, flake or leave a residue. Great for applique. And for delightfully scented fabrics and clothing, fill your iron with lavender linen water.

Quilt Tips

Hints & Tips

Remove marks left by blue and purple markers with hydrogen peroxide. Test first on a sample piece of fabric.

When it's time to wash a quilt, use unscented, liquid, color-free detergent to wash your quilt, and refrain from using any detergent that contains a fabric softener. Fabric softeners and the scents and dyes in regular detergents can damage the fibers in the fabric and so should be avoided. Never use bleach on your quilt! This will certainly ruin the color and will also damage the fibers in the fabric.

Orphan Blocks?

If you have an assortment of orphan blocks left over from long finished projects, why not turn them into mini-pillows? Just cut batting to fit each block; then quilt the block. Use another block or solid square for a back, sew 3 sides, turn, stuff and hand stitch closed. Mini-pillows can then be put in a basket for display. Larger ones make nice car-travel pillows or bed accessories. Mix 'n match is fun.

Old Fabric Put to Use

If you have fabrics you know you'll never use in a quilt project, try combining them to make pillow cases which can also be used for storing and transporting quilts. They make great re-useable gift bags, too, when you sew a ribbon tie in one side-seam.
