At 10 years of age, John Clem, a runaway, tagged along with the 22nd Michigan Volunteer Infantry where he was adopted as its mascot and drummer. Clem distinguished himself at the Battle of Shiloh when newspapers told the story of the "Drummer Boy of Shiloh." He joined the Army and rose in rank to Brigadier General in 1903. Dying at the age of 85, Clem is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Quilt size: 76" x 76"
