How it all Began

The wind blew its gale breath on the shoreline of the lake, fill ing the night air with flecks of ice that reached for safety on tree branches. The Tahoe winters caused the young Indian woman to huddle in her makeshift residence and pray for warmth, her new babe at her side.

Gathering around clippings and pulling the primitive animal skins closer, the need for warmth grew. The wind blew into the night and early morn, stopping only to show respect for the full moon when the clouds uncovered its glorious brightness. The next day brought warm sunshine and thawing ice to the young woman's chilly shore residence. The desire for warmth created a need to gather comfort and protection during the Windy Moon.

This ancient mythical folklore of cold winters on Nevada's Tahoe shoreline inspired a company to be formed. Founded in 1979, Windy Moon Quilts has been supplying materials of warmth and comfort ever since.
