In September 1862, Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart came upon an unoccupied building in Rappahannock River, Virginia. The house had a ballroom so the General decided to put it to good use. His soldiers needed a break from the war and the ballroom was decorated and ladies were invited and a regimental band provided music. Just days after the ball, these soldiers fought the Union Army in the Battle of Antietam.
