Waltz, a popular ballroom dance, is from the German word "walzen", which means to revolve. It evolved from the Landier around the 18th century and is characterized by a step, slide, and step in 3/4th time. The dancers revolve in perpetual circles, takng one step for each beat. Used to seeing traditional group dances, the turning and embracing couples at first shocked polite society. Paula Barnes of Red Crinoline Quilts designed this pattern to reflect the illusion of pertetual circles and the step, slide and step of the Waltz.
